Basquiat Vessel Porcelain 14x8cm

The Basquiat vessel is part of an ongoing series of vessels and plate’s inspired by art history and portraits of artists. I like his confidence and his unruly hair. The female figure and the child in her arms relates to stories that I read about him visiting museums with his mum as a very young child. The swan refers to the story from mythology about Leda and the swan where she is abducted by Zeus who appears to her as a swan. The swan image was also inspired by a Japanese print and Basquiat’s hair style often reminds me of the samurai outfits and hair shapes. Basquiat had a relationship with Madonna and he sadly died at 27 years old from an over dose.
