  • Inspiration

Rachels recent floral work reflects a life long connection with the beauty of flowers. Her current home has a garden originally designed by Gertrude Jekyll and the house was built around 1860. Intrigued by what floral painters would have created at the time of the house first being occupied she turned to the work of John Wainwright and the ultimate gift of collectors who then bequeathed paintings like this to museums and public places to be shared. As the long grey winter draws to a close she created a riot of colour and expressive paint on canvas, blooms not yet present in her garden. There is a sense of longing in the creating to connect to the past, the warmth of a much anticipated summer and a need to be free to travel.
