"This painting is a mix of imagined and observed items and has a playful bright colour palette. The title is

inspired by artist Nancy Gruskin and some of my favourite still lifes by her including bananas! It’s nothing like

her work but that’s where the title comes from :)"

Nancy's Banana Gabriella Buckingham

  • Gabriella Buckingham’s still life paintings are defined by an exploration of colour and light. Using her intuition, as much as observation, she responds to subtle changes of shape and tone as daylight shifts over her subjects, employing a vivid palette and a sense of wit to capture the lively essence of everyday forms.

Gabriella has been longlisted for the Jackson’s Art Prize and The Ashurst Prize with two other works were selected at the final stages of ING Discerning Eye and The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Gabriella's work has been chosen for the Sir John Hurt Prize in Norfolk each time she has entered over the last 5 years and in 2023 she was delighted to learn that both her entries to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition were chosen to be hung, where both works sold on opening night and were also printed as a card and art print for the RA shop. During this time Gabriella also developed two online art courses on her teaching platform called Ignite Your Art (an intuitive landscape course) and an 8-module course Experimental Still Life.
