This solo exhibition by landscape painter Kirsten Elswood is inspired by the everchanging colours, textures and shadows of the woods throughout the seasons.

With a focus on light within the landscape, and the ways in which light reshapes all it touches, Kirsten’s woodland paintings capture a world of contrast, harmony, and natural structure that is seemingly untameable, yet tied eternally to the patterns of nature. Kirsten lives and works on the border of Monmouthshire and Herefordshire, painting its lush green landscape of forests, rivers, hills and valleys. Her works draw on the beauty and drama of nature, combining painterly surfaces with a rich, natural palette that explores the colour and forms of dark copses and soft horizons. This solo collection demonstrates her talent for interpreting the wild beauty of our rural places, from the glow of sunlight on the leaf canopy to the shadows thrown by ancient trees, connecting us with the touch of the breeze and the scent of woodland greenery. Kirsten Elswood studied Fine Art at Exeter College, and later graduated from the prestigious Professional Landscape painting course at the Newlyn School of Art.
Accompanying Kirsten’s show is a selection of ceramics that reflect the exhibition’s natural themes. Sonya Wilkins’ sculptural vessels are inspired by the shape and texture of varying types of tree. Created from foraged wild clays, they are inspired by the quiet of nature’s voice and healing power of time spent in the woods, with the aim of bridging human experience and the natural world. Sue Mundy’s work responds to the simplicity and beauty of organic forms. Her vessels mirror the shapes and angles of trees and branches, and are finished in a palette of natural colours. Carol Sinclair’s ceramic works are made with sustainability in mind, through a ‘closed loop’ approach to the recycling and reusing of materials. Using coloured stains and oxides, she inlays her elegant designs on porcelain slabs before forming handbuilt vessels surfaced with imagery that celebrates nature.
