Launching with an evening of feasting, wine kindly sponsored by Three Choirs Vineyard and good company, this exhibition celebrates the joy of cuisine, from alfresco dining and fine wine to the pleasure of cooking for family and friends.

 

John Button’s still life and new abstract paintings seek out the extraordinary in the everyday, from the lazy comfort of the uncleared breakfast table to the temptation of fresh fruit in a patterned bowl. Angela Findlaycaptures moments of domesticity in a way that celebrates the rituals of our everyday. Half finished wine bottles, abandoned dinner plates, and intimate breakfast settings suggest stories of time shared with friends and lovers. Charlotte Hardy’s paintings explore tabletop still life in both real and invented interiors, where vases of flowers and patterned ceramics suggest whimsical domestic narratives. Nancy Chambers paints in appreciation of life’s simple pleasures. Her subjects include figs, pears, pomegranates, lemons, limes and other delicacies, in works that put a contemporary twist on the classic still life. Rachel Redfern draws on photographs, sketches and memories of events and reflective moments in her daily life. Her new collection of culinary works is specially created for this exhibition. Kirsten Elswood’s simple but sumptuously painted collection of still life works presents us with a series of edible delights, while Mary Liddell’s classically English, table-set and café culture paintings are inspired by strawberries and cream on a garden table, and delicious post-pudding cheeses. The exhibition also includes food inspired ceramics by Sophie McCarthy, Carla Murdoch, Nicola Martin and Caroline Davies.
