GR pendant with beech leaves, 29mm diameter
‘GR’ stands for Golden Ratio, a mathematical formula which can be found in the patterns of many natural forms, and which seems to be innate within us.
(The ratio of the whole piece to the aperture is 1.618:1)
It is said that shapes made using this ratio are pleasing to the eye.
Beverly Bartlett BMB22 Pendant
Beverly's first real interest was in science and choosing to study the three sciences meant art had to become a hobby. After studying Applied Biology at the University of Bath followed by research at Imperial College, London she worked for the Ministry of Agriculture and started to study jewellery part time. Finally, Beverly left the Ministry and became a jeweller in residence at South Hill Park Arts Centre (Bracknell) before moving to teach at Reading College. She is now based in her own workshop and sells mainly through Craft fairs and Galleries.
Artist Statement
I continue to explore new design ideas and techniques that make use of both my science background and knowledge of working with metals. I am interested in the way mathematics and art coincide - the golden ratio can be found in many natural forms and I enjoy using this to make pieces which appeal to customers.
All my work is handmade at my workshop in Berkshire and hallmarked where necessary at the Sheffield assay office, where my mark is registered.
I work mainly in silver - or gold on commission - and am happy to make jewellery based on my designs for customers.
