Jean Tolkovsky ‘Drumbeat’
Jean gained a BA hons degree in Art and Design, Ceramics, at West Surrey College of Art and Design, Farnham, (now UCA Farnham). She mainly exhibits her work at major ceramics shows including Potfest and Art in Clay, and through a limited number of galleries. She has private collectors in the UK, Australia and the US.
Jean works from her home studio in Guildford, Surrey, where she produces her unique, handbuilt, figurative pieces, which fall into two categories. Here she presents her whimsical, toylike, animal characters, inspired by fairytales and childhood memories.
By contrast, the second aspect of her work is centred around emotive, more naturalistic busts and anthropomorphic shelf figures. Almost all of the work carries a loose narrative which is open to interpretation.
