Opening as part of the Far Open Studio Art Trail and on show this summer, The Sanctuary Studio and Gallery presents Small Isles, an exhibition of painting, ceramics and handcrafted jewellery inspired by our unique British landscape.

Sharon Harvey
Be it river, sea or lake, painter Sharon Harvey has always been drawn to water. Her favourite walk is a coastal path, along towering cliffs with views of endless sky, above hidden coves that are exposed only periodically by the tides. From Scotland’s Outer Hebrides to Wales’s spectacular heritage coastline, to the untamed edge of Cornwall, her paintings explore the beauty of our island landscape in a rich palette of Raw Umber, Green Gold, Yellow Ochre, Cobalt Teal and the endless variations of Payne’s Grey. Following a research trip to the South West Hebridean islands Mull, Iona, Eigg, Muck, Canna and Rum Sharon has produced a body of work exploring memory and the sublime and what it means in contemporary landscape painting today.
Sharon graduated with a First-Class Honours Degree in Fine Art, was shortlisted for the National Graduate Award, and gained representation with London based art consultants Artiq. She is represented by Greenstage Gallery in Herefordshire and exhibits regularly at The Sanctuary Studio & Gallery in Newnham on Severn, where she also acts as Gallery Director. Her works held in both UK and International private and public collections.
Nicola Martin
Nicola produces unique stoneware pieces with an emphasis on glaze decoration. Her open vessels become the canvas onto which she ‘paints’ abstract images inspired by aerial landscapes.
For her, the connection with the natural world intensifies when each piece is glazed, a process that is further heightened by the alchemy that takes place in the kiln. The outcome is striking contemporary pieces that are sought after by collectors.
She is currently exhibiting her work in RHS Wisley Gallery and other galleries near her studio in The South Downs.
Named as ‘The One to Watch’ by Enki magazine in 2022, she has also exhibited at The New Designers ‘One Year In’ Exhibition at The Business Design Centre in Islington and ‘The London Art Sale’, Downstairs at The Department Store, in Brixton.
She constantly strives to develop her work and is currently continuing her studies in ceramics at West Dean College of Arts & Conservation in Chichester.
Hannah Duncan
Hannah Duncan is a Swansea based contemporary jeweller and enamel artist. She graduated from Hereford College of Arts in 2016 with a BA (Hons) in Jewellery Design.
Working predominately in enamel, silver and copper much of her work is inspired by British coastal landscapes, the south west coast of Scotland in particular.
Over the last couple of years, during holidays at Carrick Shore, Hannah has spent much of her time beach-combing and collecting various small and interesting pebbles. Setting the unpolished stones in silver, Hannah has developed a collection of coastal jewellery that celebrates the beauty and individuality of pebbles in their natural state.
The silver features of Hannah’s designs are influenced by different aspects of the pebbles’ surface patterns, textures and individual shapes. Some of the designs are also reversible, allowing the wearer to choose which way round to wear them, with silver details reflecting the patterns on the reverse of the pebbles.
