Bethany Holmes is a British artist whose energetic, expressive paintings explore the emotional and physical experience of colour. She graduated with a BA in Textile Design from Nottingham Trent University and now works from a secluded studio in rural Essex. Holmes is represented by galleries across the UK and has held two solo exhibitions, with works held in private collections worldwide.Career highlights include winning the Partnership Editions Open Call in December 2024, being runner-up in the TOAST Art Prize in January 2025, and a significant commission from Miro Hotels to create a body of work for their Templeton Garden Hotel in Kensington, London.Rather than depicting landscapes, Holmes builds layered abstractions that respond to the shifting light, changing temperatures, and seasonal rhythms of her surroundings. Her paintings are a sensory record — a response to atmosphere, memory, and moment.Colour is central to her process: both guide and subject. Holmes has a hyperawareness of tonal nuance, vibration, and how a palette can carry mood and meaning. Her approach is instinctive and vigorous — a physical, almost combative act.
